Grand Pier architects named

24th September 2008

The six architects competing to redevelop Weston's Grand Pier have been confirmed.

The architects are Grimshaw, Angus Meek Architects, AWW, Stride Treglown Ltd, Acanthus Ferguson Mann Architects and Ray Hole Architects.

They are vying to work on the project, which is worth £10-15million.

Pier owners Kerry and Michelle Michael are putting the design blueprints on display at the Winter Gardens' seafront bar H2O from September 30 until October 6 so the public can have their say.

All six designs will be in the Weston & Somerset Mercury on October 2.

It is hoped that members of the public will inspect the designs and offer their own opinions to ensure residents' views are taken into account ahead of rebuilding.

The new designs are expected to be a modern 21st century pier which is still sympathetic to the old Victorian 1904 structure.

The landmark building was destroyed by fire on July 28.
