Over 30 year eight Design and Technology students from Worle Community School paid a visit to Weston Pier this week.

Pupils were shown how the remains of the pavilion building, which was destroyed by a massive fire in July, are being removed by Bristol company TR Demolition.

Pier Mananger Tom Sprackman explained to the pupils what is happening during the demolition process and what will be the next phase in the re-building of the attraction.

The 13 year old pupils were visiting several places in Weston-super-Mare including the Helicopter Museum, Knightstone Island, the new sea defences and the Pier exhibition in the Winter Gardens.

Design and Technology teacher Peter Williams said: “We are very grateful to the Pier owners for letting the children see what is happening in the re-building process. Anything that is to do with design and technology is very important and the fact that it is going on right on our doorstep makes it very real for the pupils.

There is so much going on in Weston-super-Mare at the moment including the re-building of the Pavilion, the sea defences and of course the Tropicana and we are using it to teach the children of the relevance of design and technology in their everyday lives”.
