The Grand Pier Pavilion Remains

Buttons still clowning around!

7th August 2008

Buttons the Grand Pier character was back entertaining visitors just three days after the pavilion was destroyed by fire. North Somerset youngsters will be pleased to know the attraction's resident clown Buttons survived the devastating blaze.

Although the giant clown usually lives inside the pavilion, on the night of the blaze he was sound asleep in the Grand Pier Gift Shop, at the beach end of the boardwalk.

Pier owner Michelle Michael said: "There were rumours going round that he had died in the blaze but only his clothes caught fire. "Luckily the clown was sleeping far away from the pier and he has been back to work this week, entertaining children."
